From time to time, we need encouragement in our language learning when we don’t see results or when our motivation wanes. Today we’re going to look in the Bible for verses that will give us a kick-start.
Proverbs 14:23 NIV:
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Often we just dream, plan and talk about how we would like to have a good language level, various certificates and success. But it just stays in our mouths and we don’t do anything about it. Theory goes hand in hand with practice, so we should start doing something today. At least small steps.
Proverbs 12:15 NIV:
The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.
If we think we are doing well in our studies, but still our journey is not yielding results, let’s turn to the experts and not be unnecessarily proud. Let’s not be ashamed of being in a dead end and let’s take advice.
Proverbs 18:9 NIV:
One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.
We’re learning the vocabulary and we’ve got the phone next to us. Of course, it’s constantly reporting alerts from Facebook, Instagram and other networks, and it’s clear that we can’t stand it and we’re constantly taking that phone in our hands. Have you ever calculated how much time you realistically spend on studying and how much time you spend on your phone? But it’s not so much about time as it is about how much you learn. Probably not much, right? 🙂
Proverbs 28:19 NIV:
Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.
Imagine yourself in the shoes of a successful manager who speaks several languages and is constantly getting well-paid job offers, travelling and being happy. That’s the first half of the verse. And then think about what it would be like to not speak a single language, to always want it, but still not have it (A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. Proverbs 13:4 NIV).
Proverbs 14:29 NIV:
Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.
Have you ever been so enthusiastic about a language that you wanted to complete several lessons in a textbook in one night? And this was repeated for several days and you finally gave up completely exhausted? I suspect it demotivated you so much that you put the language off indefinitely. Even if at the very beginning the enthusiasm is indescribable, it’s definitely better to plan your studies sensibly and do a little every day. You’ll make a routine of it and slowly make progress.
All these verses have one thing in common. It encourages people to work. So let’s do something today for our language development 🙂 God bless you all.
